CALARTSGRADUATE OPEN STUDIOS 2019
SUNDAY, APRIL 28, 2019
12 – 6 PM (AND BEYOND)
Valencia, CA — MFA art students from the renowned California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), located in Valencia, California, will open their studios to the general public on April 28, 2019 from 12 pm to 6 pm.
24700 MCBEAN PARKWAY, VALENCIA, CALIFORNIA 91355
The MFA Open Studios will feature exhibited works, performances, and video art screenings with MFA students from the programs of Art, Art & Technology and Photography & Media who will share insights into their work and current art practices. Central to the work this year is the critique of power structures: institutions, gender norms, neo-liberalism, and new technologies/networks.
CalArts has set the pace for educating professional artists since 1970. Many graduates from its MFA art program, such as Mark Bradford, Catherine Opie, and Mike Kelley, have gone on to world-wide success.
During the MFA Open Studio event, visitors can view artwork and speak to artists in their studios in the Broad Studios, Annex and Photography Studio Buildings. Performance art and video screenings will be presented in the John Baldessari Studio Building and other locations throughout the day. Food and drink will be available. Campus maps with directions to the various events will also be available on the day of the event.
This event is FREE and OPEN to the public.
CalArts offers rigorous undergraduate and graduate degree programs through six schools—Art, Critical Studies, Dance, Film/Video, Music, and Theatre—CalArts has championed creative excellence, critical reflection, and the development of new art forms and expressions. As successive generations of faculty and alumni have helped shape the landscape of contemporary arts, the Institute, first envisioned by Walt Disney, encompasses a vibrant, eclectic community with global reach, inviting experimentation, independent inquiry, and active collaboration and exchange among artists, artistic disciplines, and cultural traditions.
