Eric Andrew Carter is an LA-based visual artist currently pursuing an MFA at CalArts. He is interested in methods of understanding the world through quantifiable means, and his work both imagines and undermines the potentialities of working with data in an artistic context.
Eric’s recent multimedia show “n of 1” investigates the “small” data gleaned from psychological testing and turns the table on the tests themselves. Video, performance, and mixed-media pieces based on tests such as the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory 2 and the Thematic Apperception Test expose mostly the flaws, but also the occasional moments of insight that these tests offer.
